Event description

Description

As part of Refugee week we're showing Cannes Palme d'Or 2015 winner, Dheepan, from acclaimed director Jacques Audiard (A Prophet).

On the losing side of a civil war in Sri Lanka, a Tamil soldier (Antonythasan Jesuthasan) poses as the husband and father of two other refugees in order to escape their ravaged homeland. Arriving in France, the makeshift "family" sets about establishing a new life-only to find themselves once again embroiled in violence on the mean streets of Paris. A heartrending saga of three strangers united by circumstance and struggle, Dheepan is both a tour-de-force thriller and a powerful depiction of the immigrant experience.

2015 | Cert: 15 | 115 mins

In French with English subtitles.

After the showing we will hold an optional Language class where you can join in and learn French, for just £1 extra on the day, whether it's learning from scratch or brushing up on your skills. Facilitated by a trained modern foreign languages tutor, it's a chance to talk about the messages of the film, as a more immersive way to learn a language.
