Description

Join us for a unique film experience and UK premier of "Hölma All", a debut feature film by Siim Tamm.

About this event

Film-makers Siim Tamm and Tina Schepers welcome you to the screening of our film Hölma All (Between Covers). An Estonian drama/thriller and debut feature film that takes place in the dead of winter in the desolate Estonian countryside.

The film was primarily funded through a Kickstarter campaign which raised 22,000 euros through the kindness of the public and the support networks of friends and family.

A defining characteristic of the film is the brutalist seasonal conditions through which the story simultaneously takes place. These conditions not only define the story, but they shaped the way in which the film has been produced. Capturing the heart of the Estonian winter constrained pre-production to a month, and the filming time to three weeks. However, these time contraints enabled us to work efficiently to make the most of the seasons beauty. This is clearly reflected in the pure simplicity and beauty of the shots in the film.

We were also supported by the fantastic skills of the acclaimed Estonian cast, Erki Laur, Jaanika Arum, Andres Lepik, Rasmus Kaljujärv and Pääru Oja who brought the characters and their stories to life. From what started as a small idea faced by a multiplicity of obstacles, we are beyond proud to present the finalized feature-film; Hölma All (Between Two Covers).

About "Hölma All"

Hölma All (Between Covers). An Estonian drama/thriller and first-time feature film that takes place in the dead of winter in the desolate Estonian countryside. The film follows the story of Marti, a man living living his life through routine. Haunted by his past bad judgement, he has become distant and lifeless.

Kalev, an old local shopkeeper and a friend to Marti, tries convincing Marti to let go of the past and move on. Due to an unexpected event and Kalev's persuasiveness Marti finds himself on the verge of a new beginning.

After his routine trip to the shop, Marti finds a young woman Irene at his doorstep. Marti, although hesitant, invites her inside for a tea. It doesn't take Marti long to realize Irene is not who she says she is. Torn between the past and present, Marti finds himself in a cul-de-sac. Meanwhile, Kalev is alarmed by two men parked outside his shop and is certain of their bad intentions. Marti knowing of the sinister plot in motion, has to finally come to terms with himself or suffer the consequences.
