Film Screening Of "The Namesake" With 2-Course Dinner At The India Club
Event Information
About this Event
Experience a unique evening as you step into India. Tickets include a 2-course dinner at the beautifully old-fashioned India Club Restaurant, followed by the film screening of "The Namesake," starring the late and great Irrfan Khan.
Covid-19 safety measures in place (details below).
ABOUT THE NAMESAKE:
The Namesake is the story of the Ganguli family whose move from Calcutta to New York evokes a lifelong balancing act to adapt to a new world without forgetting the old.
Though parents Ashoke and Ashima (Irrfan Khan, Tabu) long for the family and culture that enveloped them in India, they take great pride in the opportunities their sacrifices have afforded their children. Paradoxically, their son Gogol (Kal Penn) is torn between finding his own unique identity without losing his heritage.
Starring Irrfan Khan and directed by the legendary Mira Nair, "The Namesake" perfectly emotes the complexity of being raised in the States by immigrant parents.
The film "conveys a palpable sense of people as living, breathing creatures who are far more complex than their words might indicate." - NY Times
VENUE DETAILS:
The dinner and film screening will be at the charmingly eccentric India Club restaurant and lounge. The India Club has remained much the same since its opening over 50 years ago.
Hidden up a flight of stairs, enter a timewarp with portraits of the Independence era on the walls, bottle-green leather chairs, red lino flooring and laminate tabletops. It is a British curry house of the first generation.
Described as "the London of black-and-white movies...India Club is part of London's restaurant history." - Bloomberg
