Ahead of the Grand Sumo Tournament at the Royal Albert Hall this October, Japan House London is showing special screenings of the 2020 documentary Sumodo: The Successors of Samurai

Over six months in the making, this documentary goes inside the training stables of two sumo wrestlers Sakaigawa-beya and Takadagawa-beya.

The film captures the gruelling discipline of early-morning practice, the surprising details of daily life, the unshakable ties between wrestlers and their masters and the raw intensity of tournament battles. Centred on in-depth interviews with wrestlers and stablemasters, Sumodo: The Successors of Samurai offers rare personal perspectives on the enduring spirit and profound depth of sumo.

These screenings are organized in partnership with The Japan Foundation.

The screenings are in Japanese with English subtitles. Duration: approx. 104 mins

Guests who are booked to attend the screening can also enjoy 10% off drinks at the Stand on their way in.
