A moving documentary which follows a group of Syrian women, living in Beirut, who find hope through art.

About this Event

To mark International Women's Day, Stretford Public Hall are screening We Are Not Princesses , a moving documentary which tells the story of empowerment through art. It follows a group of Syrian women living as refugees in Beirut, who come together to tell their stories of love, loss, pain and hope through the ancient Greek play Antigone. With intimate footage and stunning animation, this film focuses on the strong, resilient and often hilarious Syrian women who are moving forward in spite of the ever-worsening situation back home.

Doors open at 7.30 pm. Film starts at 8.00 pm.

This special screening, to mark International Women's Day, is a collaboration with the Muslim Festival of Art and Culture (MACFEST), Journeys Festival International, and Screen32, Stretford's community cinema.
