The story of a young Israeli Conscientious Objector + animation short called Checkpoint + post-screening Q&A session
About this event
Objector
Like all Israeli youth, Atalya is obligated to become a soldier. Unlike most, she questions the practices of her country’s military, and becomes determined to challenge this rite of passage.
Despite her family’s political disagreements and personal concerns, she refuses military duty and is imprisoned for her dissent. Her courage moves those around her to reconsider their own moral positions and personal power.
OBJECTOR follows Atalya to prison and beyond, offering a unique window into the Israeli-Palestinian conflict from the perspective of a young woman who seeks truth and takes a stand for justice.
The film, directed by Molly Stuart, was released in 2019 and since then has garnered several awards at various film festivals across the world.

Animation Short: Checkpoint
Before screening 'Objector' we will show this poignant short animation about a Palestinian girl's struggle to get to school.
Post-screening Q&A session
After showing both films there will be an opportunity to ask questions. We are delighted to tell you that the Director of Checkpoint is intending to be with us in person and, technology permitting(!), we will also have Atalya herself joining us via Zoom.
Doors open at 6pm if you want to do some shopping first. There will be stalls selling Zaytoun goods and another selling Palestinian Ceramics. There will also be Pax Christi Christmas cards available for purchase.
