Ruskin House Film Screen presents:
WAR SCHOOL - THE BATTLE FOR BRITAIN'S CHILDREN
Written and directed by Mic Dixon, this challenging documentary is set against the backdrop of Remembrance Day. Faced with public opposition to its foreign military interventions, the Government is using a series of new and targeted strategies to promote support for the armed forces. These include making the idea of military service more attractive to children.
Through Armed Forces Day, Uniform to Work Day, Camo Day (when schoolchildren are encouraged to 'dress up like our troops' as a fundraiser) and National Heroes Day, the military presence is increasing daily in our schools, on the streets, on TV, on the web, at sports events and in advertising and fashion. Over £100 million is being spent by the Government on a comprehensive plan targeting our education system and public promotion of the armed forces.
However, a growing resistance to militarisation is developing. Ben Griffin was a gun-obsessed child who became an SAS zealot. He now leads a Veterans for Peace march to the Cenotaph. Quaker Sam Walton uncovers the new Government strategies and risks prison in his determination to oppose them.
Through the testimony of veterans, archive footage and observation, War School reveals the untold story of Britain's century of perpetual war and the dangers posed by this spreading military ethos.
