About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours

In this workshop, we will explore the world of film through warm-up activities, creative prompts, and a relaxed block of time to make mini-zines that help you dream beyond the screen 🎥

Film has a unique power to stir emotion, spark imagination, and shape how we see the world. Hosted in collaboration with The Film Club, this workshop will draw inspiration from all corners of cinema, from iconic scenes and characters to soundtracks, quotes, moods, and visual styles.

Whether it’s a childhood favourite, a recent arthouse gem, or an obscure VHS tape you stumbled upon that one time, your zine can celebrate, critique, remix, or reinterpret any aspect of film that resonates with you.

Think of it as a love letter to cinema, or a creative dialogue with the moving image. And the best part? Your handmade collage mini zine will have a space on the reverse side for you to design your very own film-inspired poster.

You do not need any prior experience to take part (though we always do like to welcome back familiar faces!) and included with your ticket is a bespoke handmade envelope full of collage cut-outs to use on the day or take home for later.

Embrace the element of chance, make new like-minded friends, join our supportive community, and most importantly – have fun delving into the zine-making process!

We are releasing a range of ticket price options in the hope that everyone will be able to take part. There are a limited number of each ticket option available, therefore we kindly ask that you do an honest assessment of your affordability to ensure the intended equal access.

Here's a guide to help inform your choice:

✴️ £10 (covers some of our costs) – I am a student, unemployed, on benefits, financially stressed, or regularly struggle to meet my basic needs

✴️ £12 (covers most of our costs) – I am employed, have some expendable income, and manage to meet my basic needs

✴️ £15 (covers all of our costs and supports future workshops) – I am employed or have enough savings to comfortably meet my basic needs

The first rule of film club: you must talk about film club.

The Film Club is a third space for women and non-binary individuals that relate to the female experience to connect over their shared love of cinema. This includes casual socials with cinema hangouts, crafty workshops (like this one!) and exploring new spots together.

Whether you’re a die-hard cinephile or just starting your film journey, you’re more than welcome! Learn more on their website, stay tuned on their Instagram, or over on the Cliq community.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be a cinephile to join this session?

It's definitely a bonus if you're a film buff, but by no means are you expected to know everything about cinema in order to come along and join in with zine-making. Take this as an opportunity to make new friends, get crafty, chat about movies (if you want), and learn about The Film Club.

Do I need to bring any materials along with me?

We will provide all the materials you need, but we welcome you to bring along any extra materials you feel would enhance your zine-making experience or outcome. Please be mindful of the 'upcycled' theme and avoid bringing single-use items.

What does the handmade envelope contain?

Every envelope is different, so you'll have to come along to find out what's in yours [wink]

What is your refund policy?

We can only refund your ticket up to 1 week before the workshop takes place. This is so we can ensure there is enough time to re-list the ticket and offer it to those on our waiting list. Unfortunately, the Eventbrite fees are non-refundable.

Do I need prior experience to participate?

Our workshops are open to all experience levels, and our aim is always to guide you gently through the process of zine-making to ensure a pressure-free environment where you can fully immerse into your creative zone.
