About this event

  • 6 hours

The theme for our final youth worker gathering, as part of our Legacy year is sustainability.

What does sustainable LGBTQ POC* youth work look like? As our organisation comes to a close, we’re thinking about what it takes to sustain LGBTQ POC movements, communities and ourselves as youth workers. We’ll explore what our work needs to keep going, plus what we as individuals need to stay well.

We will also make space to reflect on our roles as educators and navigating grief in youth work. How do we talk about loss with LGBTQ young people? How do we teach liberation? How do we talk about Palestine within youth work/education settings?

Join us and reflect on youth work practice from radical, queer and POC lenses, with a focus on creativity, self care and wellbeing.

Who is this for?

LGBTQ POC who work with LGBTQ POC youth, including teachers, youth workers, therapists, social workers, volunteers, community organisers, activists and leaders.

CYN Youth Worker Gatherings are a space for LGBTQ POC youth workers to come together and just be. Feedback from previous sessions and conversations have highlighted how important it is for us to have a regular, closed space for us to come together, check in, and talk. These spaces are pretty rare and we want to change that.

These gatherings are relaxed, informal spaces to:

  • breathe
  • share experiences
  • pose questions and ideas
  • give and seek peer support
  • connect with other youth workers around the UK

All LGBTQ POC youth workers are welcome, you might be working with LGBTQ POC youth right now, you might be a worker in a youth organisation totally unrelated to these identities, you might be taking a break from youth work at the moment - whatever your current practise, you are welcome!

Gatherings generally are not about sharing youth work practise or focussing too much on our actual youth work (though we may hold some sessions focussed more on our work in the future if there is want for this)- they are about nurturing us as as individuals and as a collective.

*LGBTQ POC - we use Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer People of Colour to identify groups to include the vast spectrum of sexualities, expressions and gender identities within those terms. We also sometimes use the acronym QTIPOC.

Joyful throwback to our 2022 in person gathering!
