Overview

Understanding finance is key to the success of every business. This workshop facilitated by BDO and presented by Sarah McClenaghan and David Ramsey, is designed for non-financial executives, directors, managers and supervisors at all levels who wish to gain a practical working knowledge of finance.

It de-mystifies the language of finance to enable key personnel to develop their financial understanding in regards to decision making and therefore allowing them to contribute more effectively to overall business performance.

Workshop Objectives:

  • Understand accounting Jargon
  • Learn how and why financial statements are drawn up
  • Understanding Financial Statements
  • Get a handle on budgeting and its usefulness
  • Learn how to implement efficient cash flow management

David Ramsey, Senior Manager at BDO Northern Ireland

David is a Senior Manager within the Audit Department of BDO Northern Ireland. David graduated with a first class honours degree from Ulster University, and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2012.

David trained in a big four accountancy firm and over this time he has been working with a variety of different types of businesses in a number of sectors such as construction, agriculture, professional clients, manufacturing and public sector. David’s experience includes accounts preparation, taxation, payroll, audit and financial services.

David’s specialism is found in group audits including group reporting & consolidations with his past clients including Irelands largest Agri-foods group. David has extensive experience in both IFRS and UK GAAP reporting.

David has a particular interest in FRS 102 conversion of statutory accounts and previously led a project on behalf of the Northern Ireland Regional Colleges to assess the impact the transition to new UK GAAP would have on them.

Sarah McClenaghan, Manager at BDO Northern Ireland

Sarah is a Manager within BDO Northern Ireland’s audit department. Sarah a graduate of University of Ulster, achieved a Computer Science degree as well as a Post Graduate Diploma in Accounting before qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 2009.

Sarah trained in a small firm based in Belfast before moving to one of the big four accountancy firms. Over this time she has been working with a variety of different types of businesses in a number of sectors such as Construction, Agriculture, Professional Clients, Retail and Manufacturing. Sarah’s experience includes accounts preparation, taxation, payroll, audit and financial services.

Sarah also specialises in reporting under Solicitors’ Accounts Regulations and has a particular interest in FRS 102 conversion of statutory accounts.
