Scale up masterclass series in partnership with Smith and Williamson

Designed as part of a series of masterclasses exploring four different aspects of scaling your business, this half day interactive session will offer a practical insight into key financial issues affecting entrepreneurial businesses and their owners. Presenting expert technical advice alongside the practical experiences of a scale- up entrepreneur, ‘Finance for non-financiers’ will give you the understanding and the confidence to make better and more timely financial decisions. It will also help you to understand where to focus your time, what to measure, how to avoid costly mistakes, and how to make your business look more attractive to potential investors or buyers.

Expert Speakers

Michael Doherty is Chairman & Owner of ehouse digital marketing, a public/private sector non exec, and investor with a background in corporate finance at Charterhouse Development Capital, Hanson PLC and Citibank NA. Michael is a Trustee of Oxford Radcliffe NHS Trust; a Guest Lecturer, Finance, at UCL & Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Programme; and a member of The Supper Club.

Guy Rigby is a highly regarded and well known personality in the entrepreneurial community, and currently leads the entrepreneurial services group at Smith & Williamson. His diverse career has taken him from chartered accountant to entrepreneur to author and now mentor and advisor to dynamic owner-managed businesses. He regularly contributes content and commentary for national and business press and sits on various judging panels for high profile business awards and growth programmes. Under Guy’s leadership, Smith & Williamson is fast becoming the ‘go-to accountancy firm’ for entrepreneurs. He has been listed as one of the top 50 movers and shakers in the financial world by Economia magazine (published January 2016), which is reflected in his involvement with the ‘Scale-Up Institute’ (member of the Finance & Risk Capital Committee), Founders4Schools (Trustee) and the Centre for Entrepreneurs (member of the Advisory Board).

Peter Ball is a ‘Big Four’ tax specialist who recently joined Smith & Williamson from EY to help clients, particularly business owners, with all aspects of their tax affairs. A member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation, Peter works with entrepreneurs, family groups, companies seeking venture capital investment and management teams, helping to ensure their tax profiles are aligned with and complement their personal, and business plans.
