Finding community solar sites
Event Information
About this Event
This free, public event will be led by Gordon Coppock (Pomona solar, KLEEN, Kington Community Energy). He knows his stuff and promises to be a really useful talk for anyone interested in identifying potential sites for community solar PV, in post-subsidy times.
We have had an amazing response and Eventbrite ticket ‘sales’ are now closed as we have reached capacity! It’s really heartening to see how much interest there is in keeping community solar going and getting new projects up and running.
With so many people signed up it is especially important that we keep to time so please get yourself set up and ready to go a few minutes early. Noel Lambert will be manning the waiting room and will admit everyone from 18:30.
Housekeeping
If you could have your mic muted and video off that would be a great help - and please display your name as per your sign up. Especially important if you have been doing online quiz Zooms over Christmas and are still called ‘Bigly Brain Donald’ or similar :) The webinar will be recorded and later published on our Vimeo channel and the chat will also be saved and can be sent out on request if needed. References and further reading, links etc will be available here: https://bigsolar.coop/resources
Format
We have slightly adjusted the format as we recognise that we have a wide range of attendees, not all of whom will have in depth prior knowledge of the Big Solar Co-op project or community energy. Jon Hallé (Sharenergy CEO) will now kick off the webinar with a brief intro, but please do root around our website and see what we have been up to so far if you haven’t already: https://bigsolar.coop
The webinar will include:
- Intro to community energy and the Big Solar Co-op
- Why we focus on large scale rooftop solar PV
- How do Big Solar Co-op projects work?
- Key factors that make a site suitable for rooftop solar
- You have found a site, now what?
- Q&A
- Open discussion
Questions
Answering questions in real time with up to 90 people on the Zoom call will be a challenge so please do pre-submit any that you already know you want to ask to info@bigsolar.coop. Aaron Yule will be manning the live chat throughout the webinar and selecting the most relevant ones for this setting to be discussed at the end of the main presentation, in the Q&A session by Gordon and Jon.
Still want more?
The Zoom channel will be kept open after the Q&A to allow people to talk more if wanted, we are calling this bit the Co-operators Arms (cred. Jon Hall at Community Energy England for the name + check his ace blog on running Zooms) as none of us can head down the pub anymore to carry on talking after events! Last but not least, please note that you can come and talk to us at the Big Solar Co-op at any time, we are a friendly lot and if we don’t get to your questions tonight we will endeavour to do so after the webinar.
