In 1979 Robert Hartley was appointed Assistant Archaeological Survey Officer for Leicestershire and Rutland, with a brief to record archaeological sites. One way of doing this was by studying "humps and bumps" in the many pasture fields, where buildings, ponds, mounds, and old cultivation systems still affected the surface of the ground. He began publishing reports on these earthworks with a volume on Rutland in 1982.

Copies of his publications will be on sale.

The talk will be followed by refreshments: tea, coffee, soft drinks and homemade cakes. Donations to the Great Easton & District History Society.
