About this event

Finding the Words with Meg Cox, Kathy Pimlott and Tom Sastry

Meg Cox is an old poet who owes any success she has had to the Open University, 10 years of Arvon and other residential courses all over the UK and France, many encouraging and critical poet friends and reading poetry all the time. Her work is in several anthologies, a few magazines, one pamphlet and very recently her first collection published by Poetry Business - 'A Square of Sunlight’.

Kathy Pimlott was born and raised in Nottingham but has lived for 45+ years in Covent Garden, specifically Seven Dials, home of the broadsheet and the ballad. Her first full collection, the small manoeuvres, was published by Verve Poetry Press in spring 2022. She has two pamphlets with The Emma Press, Elastic Glue and Goose Fair Night. Her poems have been published widely in magazines and anthologies and, most recently as one of just 20 chosen for the Poetry Archive’s Now! Wordview 2020 Collection.

Tom Sastry Hera Lindsay Bird calls Tom Sastry a magician of deadpan. A funny and engaging performer, he will be showcasing his brand new collection You have no normal country to return to - a darkly comic exploration of national identity and the power of modern myths. It follows A Man's House Catches Fire (2019) which was highly commended in the Forward Prize and shortlisted for the Seamus Heaney First Collection Prize. His pamphlet Complicity (2016) was a Poetry School Book of the Year and a Poetry Book Society pamphlet choice.

"Tom Sastry navigates the mysterious everyday...making friendships and love affairs new and strange" - Carol Ann Duffy
