Symposium to Launch findings of the HSCB commissioned Study entitled:

Health and Social Care Professionals' Family Focused Practice with Parents who have Mental Illness, their Children and Families in Northern Ireland

During Mental Health Week in Northern Ireland, the School of Nursing and Midwifery at QUB, in partnership with the HSCB, will launch the findings of this significant study completed across the five Health and Social Care Trusts from 2016 – 2017. Key recommendations related to policy, practice, education and research will also be presented.

When: 18th May 2018.

Where: Riddel Hall (Conference room 1& 2), Queens University Belfast

This one day symposium will also include presentations on Think Family Northern Ireland (TFNI) initiatives. There will also be presentations from leading international experts in the field of family focused practice (FFP), a poster presentation, panel discussion and opportunity to develop collaborative networks.

Who is it for?

Service users and family members, frontline staff in mental health and children’s services (i.e. nurses, psychiatrists, social workers, psychologists and allied health professionals), team leaders, managers, commissioners of mental health and children’s services, policy makers, voluntary sector organisations, researchers and experts from all disciplines who have an interest in mental health and FFP.

  • Professor Joanne Nicholson, Professor of Psychiatry and Family Medicine, University of Massachusetts, USA

  • Commissioner Toni Wolf, Massachusetts rehabilitation commission, USA

  • Dr Adrian Falkov - Child, Adolescent and Family Psychiatrist, Royal North Shore & Sydney Children’s Hospitals, Australia

  • Dr Bente Weimand - research and development (mental health division), Akershus University Hospital, Norway

  • Associate Professor Andrea Reupert - Monash University, Australia

  • Professor Tytti Solantaus- National Institute for Health and Welfare, Finland

Poster Submission

We particularly encourage staff from Adult Mental Health and Children’s Services (statutory and voluntary) along with researchers in the field of Mental Health and Social Care, to present a piece of recent work related to Parental Mental Health issues and FFP, in the form of a poster. If you would like to present a poster please complete the Poster Submission Application Form (attached) and return to: stuart.greer@hscni.net
