About this event

If your child is 10+ and a keen artist , eager to take their skills further, then these are the perfect sessions! Led by enthusiastic studio artist Prue Clarke who will aim to refine drawing skills, explore mark making, examine colour theory and introduce artists not covered in schools.

The first sessions will explore the medium of charcoal, learnIng about tonal value through various methods such as chiaroscuro and subtractive drawing. Sessions are held on Saturdays and this block will be moving on to look at perspective and atmosphere through layering and smudging helping to create wonderful expressive charcoal artworks.

Frequently asked questions

My child is a keen artist but under 8, is it suitable?

Although all budding artists are welcome it is suited more to older children and teens. The current attendees are 11–16.

Do we need to attend recurring sessions?

Each block ( half term) concentrates on one skill set. Teens and children will get more from the block by attending all sessions however it is not compulsory.

Is it craft based?

No. The lessons are taught by a practicing fine artist and take place in a working studio where many artists practice. These sessions are skill based concentrating on fine art skills.

Will my child/teen come away with a finished piece?

The sessions are practical and teach skills. This means that some sessions end without a finished final piece to take home. There is a lot of learning about materials and how to use them during the sessions.
