CPD Course on Fire Engineering for Structural Engineers by Jenny Burridge and Roger Plank.
About this event
COURSE DETAILS
The Surrey Regional Group is holding a CPD Course on Fire Engineering led by Jenny Burridge of The Concrete Centre and Roger Plank of Sheffield University. It is intended for structural engineers seeking to expand their understanding of and skills in tackling design for structures in fire conditions.
The course will cover the principles of fire engineering, the behaviour and design of common structural materials and members, and how real structures perform in fire.
Where:
Lecture Theatre M, University of Surrey, Guildford, Surrey, GU2 7XH
When:
Wednesday 7th September 2022, from 10.00 to 16.00 (registration from 9.30)
CPD: 1 day Price: £175
Entry Criteria
Some exposure to design for fire and knowledge of terminology would be of benefit.

SPEAKERS
Jenny Burridge MA CEng MIStructE MICE
Head of Structural Engineering, The Concrete Centre
Jenny is a chartered civil and structural engineer with more than 30 years’ experience in the construction industry. She has worked for Arup and AECOM designing award winning buildings in both the UK and mainland Europe. As Head of Structural Engineering she leads a team of engineers advising clients, engineers and architects on the most efficient and effective uses of concrete. She is the UK representative on the CEN task group looking at revisions to the fire part of Eurocode 2.
Roger Plank CEng MICE FIStructE
Roger Plank recently retired as Professor of Structural Engineering/Architecture at the University of Sheffield, where he established an internationally renowned research group studying the behaviour of building structures in fire.
The software developed for modelling this formed the basis of the commercial package Vulcan, which subsequently won BT’s prestigious software innovation award, and is now widely recognised as a leader in its field.
Roger continues to undertake research and consultancy in fire engineering and is a Director of Vulcan Solutions, a specialist company offering fire engineering software and consultancy services.
He has held a number of prominent positions in both the steel construction sector and the Institution of Structural Engineers, serving as President in 2011.
