Overview

Due to an aging population more people are being supported to live at home with complex health issues. However, from incident data we know that these vulnerabilities also increase the risk of fire or other incident.

In Lancashire over 70% of accidental fatal fires have involved people with poor physical and or mental health and over 50% of these fatalities have been in receipt of care in the home.

Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service work closely with agencies and organisations who support vulnerable people living at home, such as increasing awareness of fire risk and what can be done to help to reduce this.

Session Content

This presentation is aimed at professionals in Lancashire, Blackpool & Blackburn with Darwen who support or care for vulnerable people in the community. The presentation provides awareness of:

  • The most common causes of fire in the home
  • Who’s most vulnerable to fire and why
  • Simple actions and advice you can provide to reduce risk
  • The support available from Lancs Fire Rescue and how to make a referral
