About this event

  • Free venue parking

A two hour guided wild swimming walk on the North Northumberland coast - a designated National Landscape. We meet at a small (free) car park in Boulmer, before walking a short distance (1 mile) to a beautiful quiet, sheltered, shallow bay for a swim. The walking is easy, but the rewards huge! If you don’t like swimming out of your depth, this spot is perfect.

After we’ve dressed, I’ll help us get toasty by lighting up my special portable wood burning stove on the beach, which we can then huddle around warming our hands, whilst drinking whatever hot beverage of choice you’ve brought in your flask.

If you’d like to, we can also practice a short (but powerful) ‘fire clearing ritual’, but don’t worry - this does not require you to walk over hot coals!

Collection and return from Seaton Delaval train station is also available, if arranged in advance.

Frequently asked questions

Are there toilets?

Yes! There is a public loo very close to the car park, and we’ll walk right by it

Is there anywhere to buy food or drink here?

Not in Boulmer no, so please bring snacks and refreshments with you

What clothing and equipment do I need?

I do not provide any clothing or equipment so you will need to bring a swimsuit, or shorts and a t-shirt, a wetsuit if you’d like to use one, some swimming or diving shoes to protect your feet, a towel or changing robe, and some comfortable shoes for walking in.

Do I need to be a strong swimmer?

No, but you must be able to swim at least one type of stroke. This is not endurance swimming, and I am not a swim coach. This is more about enjoying the seascape, and reaping the benefits (safely, under my watchful eye) of being in cold water.

Is there an age restriction?

Yes, for safety reasons I don’t take children younger than 8 years old into the water.

What about if it’s raining?

Unless there’s a weather warning in place, or it’s otherwise unsafe to do so, we’ll still swim in the rain. We will not swim however if surf levels are high, or if there are thunder and lightning strikes forecast. Your safety is paramount.

What happens if you have to cancel because of the weather?

In the case of cancellation due to adverse weather or sea conditions, you will be sent a voucher to be used within 12 months.
