Description

Two-Day First Aid for Mental Health Course

This two-day course goes into detail on a wide range of mental health conditions and is aimed at manager level or equivalent within the workplace. Once completed, this level three course will provide all the training necessary for the learner to give First Aid for Mental Health (FAMH or MHFA) in the workplace. Learners will have the opportunity to:

  1. Know what mental health is, why people develop mental health conditions and the role of a First Aider for mental health. They will have the opportunity to consider and discuss their own workplace and how their role will be delivered and supported.

  2. Know how to provide advice and practical support for a person presenting a mental health condition. We will support learners by providing scenarios and opportunities for them to practice how they might go about offering support to someone experiencing a mental health problem.

  3. Know how to recognise and manage stress, which is fundamental to this course and of great benefit to learners and the businesses they represent.

  4. Know how to recognise a range of mental health conditions and to identify the signs and symptoms for the following mental health conditions:
    • Depression • Anxiety • Psychosis and Schizophrenia • Eating disorders • Suicide • Self-harm • Substance Misuse • PTSD

  5. Understand the impact of substance abuse on mental health and what to do if a person they work with is presenting with symptoms of substance misuse.

  6. Understand the first aid action plan for mental health and be able to put it in place. This action plan supports the First Aider to confidently offer appropriate help to the person they are attending to.

  7. Know how to implement a positive mental health culture in the workplace.

Learners will receive a Level Three qualification and certificate on completion of this course, which will allow them to be identified as qualified First Aiders for Mental Health. This certification is valid for three years.

Refreshments and lunch is provided (please let us know a week in advance of the training if you have any specific dietary requirements).

While we do not offer refunds, we do allow you to switch to another course or to have someone else take your place. Please contact us seven days before your course start date, and please note we only allow this once.
