Event description

Description

At the George Ewart Evans Centre for Storytelling, Cath Little and Christine Watkins present a day of storytelling investigation and celebration. The day will focus on two strands of work which Christine and Cath have been developing and will include workshop sessions, performance, demonstration and discussion.

Morning and afternoon sessions will be open to all participants.

SIÔL FAGU - The morning session will be led by Christine. We will explore the Motherline in story, considering the meeting places between personal and mythic narrative, inherited ancestry and ‘chosen’ ancestry. The siôl fagu, the traditional welsh nursing shawl, will be our starting point for an investigation of circles of inclusivity; what binds us, what carries us forward, and what we nurture and carry. Like Russian dolls, or grandmother’s womb that encloses both daughter and embryonic granddaughter, the siôl fagu passed on through the generations encloses body within body, intention within intention. We will consider what is ‘given’ and what we choose. Who our family is. Who we nurture and protect. Who our heroines, our inspirations and our guiding lights are, and where our story connects with other tales.

THE HALLOWS QUEEN- The afternoon session will be led by Cath Little. We will engage with Cath's re-imagining of the story of Peredur from the Mabinogion, in which she finds heroines to guide her: the Wise Mother, Queen Gwenhwyfar, the Grail Maiden, the Witch Warriors of Gloucester, the Daughters of the King of Suffering, the Angry Girl and the Queen of Hallows herself. This ancient British Grail legend has resonance for these times. How do we heal the Wasteland?

SIÔL FAGU - yn y bore bydd Christine yn arwain archwiliad o Linach y mamau mewn stori, a gwnawn ni ystyried y mannau cyfarfod rhwng straeon personol a myth, rhwng etifeddu a dewis tylwyth. Gyda’r sîol draddodiadol cymreig fel dechreubwynt, gwnawn ni ystyried cylchoedd o berthyn; yr hyn sydd yn ein huno ni, yr hyn sydd yn ein cario ni yn ein blaenau, a’r hyn yr ydym yn magu. Fel doliau Rwsieg neu groth mamgu sydd yn amgylchynnu’r ferch ac egin yr wyres, mae’r siôl fagu yn cael ei phasio i lawr drwy’r cenedlaethau gan amgau corff o fewn corff a bwriad o fewn bwriad. Gwisg a gwain hîl y mamau ydyw, a dechreubwynt inni ystyried pwy a beth rydym yn dal yn agos atom; natur ein teulu, ein harwresau, ein goleudai, a'r sawl sydd yn ein hysbrydoli.

THE HALLOWS QUEEN - yn y prynhawn gyda Cath Little byddwn yn ail-ddychmygu hanes Peredur o’r Mabinogion. Yn yr hanes hon mae Cath yn darganfod arwresau i’w chyfarwyddo: y Fam Ddoeth, Brenhines Gwenhwyfar, Grealferch, Gwrachod Caerloyw, Merched Brenin Dioddefaint, Y Ferch Ddig, a’r Queen of Hallows ei hun. Mae’r chwedl hynafol hon yn cynnwys atseiniau pwysig i’n hoes ni. Pa fodd y gallen ni wellhau’r Diffeithdir?

The event FIRST HARVEST - SHAWLS AND HALLOWS is open to women. Profits go to fund the Esyllt Harker Bursary, administered by Chwedl, the network of women storytellers in Wales. Mae CYNHAEAF CYNTAF - SIÔL A CHESEGR yn agored i fenywod. Bydd elwau yn mynd at Wobr Esyllt Harker, dan ofal Chwedl, rhwydwaith chwiorydd storio Cymru.
