Going Live: Practical Guide to Live Social Media Platforms for Cultural Organisations

IN-PERSON TICKETS NOW SOLD OUT (WAITING LIST OPEN); PERISCOPE TICKETS STILL AVAILABLE.

Ever used Facebook Live, Periscope or Instagram Stories? Social media is changing. With more emphasis on ‘in the moment’ content than ever, users are live broadcasting key moments in their lives via social media channels.

Marketers in arts organisations should do the same if they want to stay relevant within their target audiences’ minds. But how to approach it? This session, aimed at marketers and everyone in between who manage social media channels for their organisation, will explore just that.

Tala Byrne of Dog joins us for this First Wednesday session, looking at the phenomenon of live social media, weighing up the different platform options from Periscope to Facebook Live to Instagram Stories. We’ll look at a practical how-to guide on using live social media on each channel and understand the technical and practical benefits of live social media for boosting engagement. We’ll then explore some examples of brands and organisations using live social media well in practice and how it could work well for organisations in the arts.

We will examine:

• The ‘live’ phenomenon – why social media is going live
• Facebook Live – content which lasts
• Periscope – flexibility in smaller groups
• Instagram Live- new kid on the block
• Instagram Stories & Snapchat – why these still count as ‘live content’
• Live social media in practice- case studies and examples
• How live social can work for you

ABOUT FIRST WEDNESDAYS

Some of the most stimulating sessions take place when there’s the opportunity to step away from the pressure of a busy job, get together with colleagues and share learning.

That’s why we host ‘First Wednesdays’ – a series of topical, bite-sized information sessions taking place on the first Wednesday of each month.

They are an open invitation each month for our Partners and industry colleagues to regularly drop in our offices to keep up to date with ideas and examples of useful practice we’ve gathered from across the country.

It might be as simple as hearing how other people have successfully tackled the same challenges you face building profitable customer relationships and wider public engagement or learning about the raft of new tools or approaches emerging daily.

Our goal is to inspire fresh thinking, expand current networks and focus on the Most Important Thing … to build new audiences and greater engagement.

If you can’t join us in person, why not sign up for a periscope registration. You will be able to tune in remotely so you can still hear from our speakers from wherever you are!
