Event description

Description

Spending Reviews, Budgets, and Autumn Statements shape the Department's finances and play a key role in determining policy direction. Most of us will have watched the Chancellor present his financial plans to parliament - but the 'behind the scenes' story of securing funding through fiscal events, from policy conception to inclusion in the Chancellor's speech, can be a mystery even to those at the centre of Government.

The Financial Strategy Division are running a series of workshops in January to demystify fiscal events and tell the story behind the red box.

Perhaps you've been involved in fiscal events in the past, but struggled to understand how your role fitted into the bigger picture. Or perhaps you're considering applying for funding at The Spring Budget. Maybe you're just curious to learn more about the analysis, negotiations, and power plays underpinning the Chancellor's statement. The sessions are open to all with an interest.

We'll cover:

  • The difference between Budgets, Autumn Statements, and Spending Reviews

  • How to secure DEL funding for policy proposals

  • How to understand the AME implications of policy decisions and build a case for change

  • The roles of HM Treasury and the Office for Budgetary Responsibility

  • How to manage new and existing funding between fiscal events and how Financial Strategy can help you

PLEASE BRING A SMART PHONE, LAPTOP OR TABLET WITH YOU THAT CAN CONNECT TO WIFI.
