Event description

Description

Join internationally-renowned concert pianist Clara Rodriguez, the Musicians of FitzFest and actor William Roberts for this special concert exploring and celebrating the life of two Venezuelans:

Independence hero Francisco de Miranda (1750-1816) in his own Fitzrovia home

and Pianist, composer and singer Teresa Carreño (1853-1917)

They both had fascinating lives and moved in very interesting political and artistic circles.

Miranda was, as Karen Racine, a recent biographer, puts it, “an international celebrity, a must-have guest at any liberal host’s dinner party”.

Teresa Carreño was variously described throughout her life as “Liszt in petticoats”, “The Empress of the piano”, “The Valkyrie of the piano”

This event draws on words and music contemporaneous with these two international figures' epoch.

The programme includes:

The Piano Sonata in C minor KV 457 and the Quintet in E flat major for Piano and Winds, KV 452 of which Mozart wrote to his father after its première: "I myself consider it to be the best thing I have written in my life." Plus pieces by Teresa Carreño, Brahms and Simón Díaz.
