The Fitzwilliam Quartet open their series of three concerts with
Beethoven’s String Quartet Op. 18 No. 1, a work of youthful genius, its famous Adagio inspired by the tragic passion of ‘Romeo and Juliet’. The programme continues with Charlotte Bray’s poignant 2022 work, ‘Ungrievable Lives’, a powerful meditation on the global refugee crisis, concluding with Shostakovich’s monumental Third Quartet, composed in the shadow of the Second World War.
