Five-week evening class: letterpress printing
Thu, 8 Jun 2017, 18:30 – Thu, 6 Jul 2017, 21:30 BST
A five-week course of sessions that run from 6.30pm to 9.30pm every Thursday evening.
For folk who would like to learn how to typeset by hand and print using the lovely old presses in the printshop, and then go on to do their own work and develop it week by week.
During the first week you will learn the basics of setting by hand and as a group we will compose and print a poster. From the second week, you will be able to develop your own project with the help of one of the experienced typographers and printers.
There is an allowance to cover some paper and inks but if we need to buy in any special materials for your particular project, we may charge this as an additional cost.
What happens if I need to cancel or want to swap the date I have booked?
Please let us know as soon as possible if you are unable to attend a workshop. No changes or refunds can be made within five days of the start of the course. Occassionally, we are able to swap a place to a different date, contact us by email to find out availability.
What is availability like?
Courses fill up quickly, but we are always adding new dates. We are happy to organise bespoke workshops for individuals or groups, just get in touch by email.
How many people are there on the day?
We have a maximum of seven people. Normally, it's five or six. We keep the workshop size small so you get lots of help from our printers.
Do I need any experience of print?
No experience necessary. The workshops are suited to those that are new to the process and people who would like to refresh their skills. We offer follow up courses including a two day course and a five week evening class for those who would like to continue learning and printing.
How much can you print?
You can choose to spend time setting something longer like a short poem, or a lyric and print short run (10 to 20 prints) or you can make a simpler design of two or three different things, like a postcard, bookmark, greetings card or poster.
Do we bring lunch?
No need. All our day workshops include lunch at Bagel Boy. Please let us know if you have special dietary needs.
What about materials?
Basic inks, paper and card are included. If you there is a special paper or board you want to use, we may charge an extra cost.
What should I wear?
Wear comfortable clothes and avoid any loose items like scarves or long jewellery. Please wear closed-toed shoes. Long hair must be tied back.
Do you sell vouchers?
Yes. Vouchers are available for day workshops and our longer courses. The vouchers are valid for one year.
