About this event

Denise McHugh offers us 'Location, Location, Location', Victorian-style! Her talk explores the households and habits of British ex-colonists returning home from India at the height of the 'British Raj'. These self-identified ‘Anglo-Indians’ were mainly middle-class professionals seeking very particular environments to accommodate their extended families, occupational interests and community networks. Together, we'll explore where one should live in England, how to house-hunt, and how to afford and furnish a home in a 'homeland' one doesn't know.

Our speaker

We are delighted to welcome back Dr Denise McHugh for her second Curious Histories talk. Denise is an Associate Lecturer at the Open University and an urban historian who has published on the middle class and provincial towns. She is currently working on the history of twentieth-century city centres.
