Description

Saturday 24 August

2pm -10pm

Please join us for an afternoon and evening of events devised by Iggy LDN and J C Cowans that forms part of Arcade East's 2019 Design and Politics season.

With knife crime in the UK reaching epidemic proportions, this panel and screening discusses issues around blackness, knife crime and masculinity. The day starts with an exhibition and screening of three films to set the tone for the discussion.

Programme

Exhibition 2pm- 5.30pm

Screenings of Black Boys Don’t Cry (2016), Fatherhood (2017) and Velvet (2018).

‘No My Name’ - an installation that features three male body outlines with names of young men. The installation pays homage to the young lives lost to knife crime.

Panel Discussion 6.30pm - 8pm

Caleb Femi, Jordan Stephens and Kevin Morosky join Iggy for an intimate and honest discussion on the black male identity in Britain. The panel will begin with a recital of Iggy’s poem We Built This Man followed by a screening of Caleb’s short film Secret Life of G’s. The audience will be given the opportunity to ask questions at the end.

Music & Drinks 8pm - 10pm

DJ set by Donnie Sunshine. Drinks will be available throughout the evening.
