Event description

Description

It has to be one of the luckiest coincidences in British history - one man begins keeping a diary in 1660 and writes it for ten years. The man is Samuel Pepys - clever, articulate and with amazing powers of observation - and the 1660s turn out to be arguably the most exciting and event-filled decade in London's history. The monarchy is restored, a Dutch fleet sails up the Thames (not with friendly intent) and the City is ravaged in successive years by the Great Plague and the Great Fire.

Pepys observed all this - as well as his own domestic triumphs and failings, and his wandering eye (and hands), and I'll be taking you around some of the sites he frequented.
