Get some creative ideas, tips and tricks to create your own 50 word short story for the Lincoln Book Festival's Flash Fiction Competition at this fun workshop, with sessions for children and young people aged 5 to 18 and their adults. This year's theme is Heroes and Villains, so whether you craft a fabulous fantasy or a mysterious whodunnit you will have fun with words.
Prizes of £30 in book vouchers are up for grabs for the best short story (as selected by a panel of judges) submitted to the Lincoln Book Festival 's Flash Fiction Competition 2025 by writers in three age categories. Categories are Primary (Reception to Year 6); Secondary (Year 7 to Year 11); and Adult (Year 12 upwards – no upper age limit). The closing date for submissions is midnight on 31st August 2025. Winners and highly commended runners-up will also have their stories published on the festival website with the opportunity to read them aloud to audiences on Saturday 5th October at Lincoln Arts Centre.

3pm-4pm: Workshop 5, ages 14-18
