About this Event

Flatpack Democracy: A DIY Guide to creating Independent politics - Peter Macfadyen

Britain today has a dysfunctional political system. Many politicians are making decisions to meet their own needs or those of their party, not the needs of the people they serve.

Flatpack Democracy is based on what is happening in Frome, Somerset and elsewhere. After years of missed opportunities, a group of local residents took control of their town council and set about making politics relevant, effective and fun.

In this webinar with Peter Macfadyen we discuss how local politics, despite limited powers, can nurture radical change.

When: Weds 4th September 2019 Starts: 19:30

Where: Winchester University, King Alfred Quarter Winton Building, Room 3

The The Winton Building is opposite the main reception building on the King Alfred Quarter campus at Sparkford Road and corner of Burma Road, SO22 4SB.

About the speaker:

PETER MACFADYEN

Social activist recent Mayor and Leader of Frome Town Council, undertaker, international development consultant, new grandfather…

Trained as a gardener, he then worked with disabled people and disability rights organisations in Africa and India.  His work with Comic Relief over the last 20 years has focussed on grants assessing and most recently supporting ways to reduce the impact of climate change on poor people.

Back home, he founded Sustainable Frome and is a Director of Frome’s new Renewable Energy Co-op.

Entrance is Free (but equally, if you wish to make a small donation to the Winchester Green Party, we won’t argue).
