Learn how to make your own string, using London-grown flax!
This is a practical, hands-on session where participants will have a go at each of the stages of the thread-making process: breaking, scutching, heckling and spinning using London-grown flax. Each participant will take away a length of thread they have made themselves. They will also learn about the history of flax-growing in this country and some background to the Grow a Garment project.
This session is run by Cordwainers Grow - who grew, processed, dyed, designed and knitted a linen garment entirely in London in 2014/15. The project still grows flax to make thread & help others do that too.
