Celebrate the United Nations International Day of Peace on the Emirates Air Line, sharing a cable car over the Thames with other Londoners, all different from yourself. What will you talk about? Our thought-starters will help - but you choose! After this first flight, take refreshments in our reserved waterside location on the Royal Docks.
As each group of about 5/6 gets acquainted, discussion might move to faith, ethnicity, age, food, anything! Ask questions you've always wanted to ask. Each group is unique as will be every discussion. All will benefit through learning how others see things differently.
Groups decide when to take the return flight. Share what you have discussed using our questionnaire – or choose not to. But take home your Flight for Peace Certificate of Airworthiness!
When you register, we ask you your age (school, 20-45, and 45+); your faith (if none, no problem!); whether you attend a local place of worship – or none; and whether you are a member of an ethnic or youth group, or voluntary organisation. With this information, we will ensure you join a Flight for Peace with others who will be different from yourself. A week before the event, we will inform you of the one hour 'window' within which your own flight will take off. Flight control will be run from the Greenwich Peninsula Prayer Space, adjacent to the Terminal.
This event is being run in association with the London Boroughs Faiths Network which includes represetnatives from all major faiths, working together for better understanding between faiths and a more peaceful world. See http://lbfn.org/
What does it cost? Your Oyster Card gets you aboard and you qualify for the £6.60 discount return fare. And the price of a cup of tea if you want one!
