This conference is to educate and hopefully inspire Flood Groups and Victims of flooding. It has been organised by Churchtown, ( near Garstang Preston) Flood Action Group, the first place to be flooded by Storm Desmond in December 2015. it is a free conference for those who have been flooded or those threatened by flooding, and for others a donation is requested. The donation will go towards flooding relief funds. Lunch and afternoon refreshments are included so you will need to register, as places are restricted to 110.
Speakers include Rachel Crompton, who is the Lead Local Flood Authority for Lancashire, Keith Ashcroft Director of Operations for Lancashire and Cumbria for the EA , who will talk about where the EA are now in terms of protecting Lancashire from flooding. Heather Shepherd, from the National Flood Forum, Professor Onno Bokhove Leeds University talking about Flood risk assessment in the age of Extremes. Mike Potter from Pickering 'Slowing the flow ' Partnership talking about how Pickering dealt with flooding with a alternative approach. Professor Maggie Mort Lancaster University talking about the effects on mental and physical health post flood, on victims.
It will be a Conference strictly related to what Flood Victims need and want to know, to help them put pressure on the various agencies for change. Applying pressure is all that Flood Groups can do, but they need education as to the best approach.
