Event description

Flourish is the Crafts Council's tranformative professional development conference for makers and designers

Taking place over two days and aimed primarily at those who have been in practice for at least four years, Flourish presents a unique setting to connect with other makers and creative professionals. Develop contacts and conversations that can turn into opportunities, collaborations or commissions; pick-up invaluable industry insight; and take away a set of resources that you can confidently bring back to your practice.

Combining keynote speakers, panel discussions, case studies and practical working sessions, our goal is to unearth what it means to be a craft business – both the challenges and the opportunities, and give pragmatic advice and insight on key and topical issues. And, most importantly, we make sure that the two days give you plenty of time and opportunity to build your own network.

Building on the inaugural Flourish conference in 2017, we'll be bringing new content that will benefit both previous and new delegates. Topics include marketing, branding and social media, ways to increase sales, creating a sustainable practice, how to grow a team, legal advice, mastering the work/life balance, working internationally and more.

** Save 25% with Early Bird tickets! Offer available until 23 May **

Day one focus: Challenge and opportunity – building the knowledge and foresight to thrive and grow

Day two focus: Businesses of distinction – articulating crafts’ unique value.

Who is this conference for?

The conference is for makers who have been in practice for more than four years and who are looking to overcome business challenges they are currently facing.

After a few years in practice the same challenges re-occur time and again: maintaining momentum to your practice; generating enough income to be sustainable; keeping up-to-date with business legislation, and how to successfully market your practice / business.

The sessions you attend and take part in will provide you with a renewed energy that gives you the kick start you have been looking for.

What will you gain from attending?

  • A set of vital resources to implement into your practice
  • New connections to help generate a sustainable and supportive network
  • Sense of confidence; increased knowledge
  • A set of action points to instigate

Unfortunately we are unable to allow delegates to bring their own lunch onto the premises.

Where will it be held?

At Goldsmiths’ Hall in the City of London. We value our partnership to City Livery Companies as many of whom are patrons of the craft sector through education and bursaries. We also recognise that it is easier to travel in to London than outside especially if booked well in advance, therefore we recommend that not only make full use of our early bird fee (available until 9 May) but also book your transport and accommodation as soon as possible

Flourish is part of a series of workshops and events designed by the Crafts Council to provide makers with skills to export and promote their work successfully
