About the event:

Flourish in Dentistry is a webinar series designed to support, empower and enrich women established dental practitioners, newly qualified dentists and dental students by sharing the insights, experiences and advice of established Black female dental professionals.

We are very excited to kick off session TWO titled Healthy Work & Healthy Life virtually on the 20th of September 2025 from 10am prompt to 11:30am.

This session will be covered by Dr Ruth Baidoo. Dr Ruth is an award winning dentist who works in both private and NHS practice in London & Essex. With 10 years experience in the profession, Dr Ruth provides general and cosmetic dentistry to her patients with a increased interest in restorative cosmetic procedures. In 2022, she was awarded best young aesthetic dentist at the Clinical Dentistry Awards and has been shortlisted for other numerous awards within and outside of dentistry.A philanthropist at heart and an advocate of education and mentoring the next generation she regularly mentors young and aspiring dentists as an extension of giving back to the community and has been involved with leading the education aspect of the Black Dental Network. Not one to shy away from the many failures she overcame throughout dental school, she uses her story as a platform and has openly shared at corporate events, schools & universities. She has been featured in numerous publications in print and online and continues to actively shares her endeavours through social media

Flourishing In Dentistry - THREE SESSION SERIES

Session two - "Healthy Work & Healthy Life"

This session's objectives are:

  • Explore how to maintain physical, mental and emotional wellbeing while working in dentistry
  • Provide realistic strategies for managing stress, burnout and work-life balance
  • Promote healthy boundaries and sustainable career practices
  • Share personal stories and practical advice from Black female dentists on thriving holistically.

 Session three is titled: "Life as a General Practitioner" and it is proposed to take place on Saturday 11th October 2025 at 10:00 am for 1-1.5 hours. This sesson will be covered by Dr Omo Okonkwo - a dental surgeon with special interest interest in cosmetic dentistry. She has over 19 years expereinec in dentistry. She is a educator, and a transformational coach with MBA where her research was focused gender and clinical leadership. She is very passionat about supporting women on their leadership journey. Whether through her dental skills, coaching or speaking enhgagements, Dr Omo is simply fervent about helping others feel empowered to be their confident and authentic selves.

This session's objectives are:

  • Provide a realistic overview of day-to-day life as a general dental practitioner
  • Explore the diversity of roles and responsibilities in GDP work
  • Offer insights into the opportunities and challenges in NHS, private, or mixed practices
  • Share personal experiences and advice for navigating and thriving in general practice

Black Female Doctors U.K. (BFDUK) CIC is the largest UK non-profit organisation CIC dedicated to supporting and empowering Black female doctors and aspiring doctors across Medicine, Surgery, Dentistry, and Research. Founded in 2020, BFDUK exists to increase representation, promote diversity and inclusion, and ensure equal opportunities for Black women in healthcare.
