About this event

This is the 9th Flow Country Research Conference, bringing together everyone with an interest in the amazing science emerging from the Flow Country. With this year’s theme "From Capitulum to Catchment", which seeks to explore how the peatland and the connected parts of the landscape are responding to rapidly changing climate and land-use, including the mechanisms that underpin resilience for the Flow Country peatland and its people - from the smallest Sphagnum structures to entire catchment systems.

Of course, in July 2024, the Flow Country was also inscribed as the world’s first and only peatland UNESCO World Heritage Site (WHS). This will be the first conference post-inscription, providing a unique opportunity to get together and celebrate this incredible achievement, and the role that the Flow Country Research Hub has played in it.

This year's conference will start with a free and optional field trip to a new location in the Flow Country on the 28th of October - more details to follow!!

The main presentation and poster sessions will be spread over the 29th and 30th of October and we are delighted to announce that we have once again partnered with the Merlin Cinema in Thurso where we will be able to showcase research and projects from the Flow Country - and beyond!

Join us to share knowledge, build collaborations, and advance peatland solutions for the climate and biodiversity crises. Stay tuned for details on workshops, session themes, speakers, and timings.
