Event description
Spring into Foraging is a FREE programme of events inviting you to discover wild plants and their hidden properties.

About this Event

Spring is a time of transformation. All around us, the world is blossoming. Have you ever wondered how wild plants could help with a cold or increase your vitality?

Between March and June the Hornbeam is offering a FREE programme of events across Waltham Forest. From plant identification to responsible harvesting, you can develop skills to connect with our wild spaces like never before.

FLOWERS & AROMATIC POWER WALK & WORKSHOP

In this 1h30 walk followed by a medicine making workshop, you will connect with the season’s aromatic power through early summer florals. Meet the mayflowers, find out about the folklore of the land and plants and make an herbal honey for uplift and joy.

Make a healing tincture or glycerite with freshly-gathered summertime herbs.

About your workshop leader: Rasheeqa is a qualified medical herbalist based in Walthamstow. Her aim is to help people (including herself!) to enjoy positivity and intelligent health in collaboration with our living universe. She believes in the healing power of community herbalism and is involved in projects that strengthen herbal healthcare practices and share knowledge and skills in plant medicine (Community Apothecary, Herbalists Without Borders). With 10 years of plant-gathering and medicine-making experience, Rasheeqa will guide you on the journey of discovering the plants that you may unknowingly walk past.

Who is the workshop suitable for? The workshop is suitable for any adult who is interested in knowing more about the nature and plants around them. No previous knowledge or experience is necessary, just a desire to learn more! Unfortunately we can't accommodate children at this workshop but we do have some family friendly events as part of our wider Spring into Foraging programme.

Accessibility: The walk might involve walking on grass, bumpy paths and steps. The pace will be slow with regular breaks.

Location: The walk will start at KukooLaLa cafe in Leyton Jubilee Park. There is limited parking available on site. The nearest train stations are Lea Bridge station, Leyton Midland Road overground, and Leyton tube (all around 15-20 minutes walk away). The bus 158 and 58 also stop a few minutes away.
