Description
The No Fly on the WALL Academy presents its first 'Fly Girlz Brunch' in which the No Fly on the WALL team sit down with self-identifying black women and women of colour, along with experts on a particular subject of focus in a relaxed environment. Over pastries and tea, we will discuss the things that matter in an effort to continue fostering debate and discussion in a safe space, amplifying the voices of black women and women of colour in British society.
In this brunch, "Black Women and the Vote: Who's got our backs?", we will be discussing the role of black women in society and which, if any, political parties care about our interests. Austerity measures, affordable housing, child care, safe streets, fairer pay, equal opportunities in the workplace... who is focusing on the things that matter to us in their manifestos? Why should we vote on May 7th 2015? Should we vote at all?
We will address these questions and more.
Joining us will be Chante Joseph, campaigner at the British Youth Council and Stephanie Akomeah, Women's Officer at London Young Labour and assistant to Rt Hon Ed Miliband MP.
This event is open to all self-identifying women of colour. No Fly on the WALL Academy events are transinclusive.
Discussions will begin at 11 am so please arrive 15 minutes earlier to settle in.
No Fly on the WALL is a platform to discuss and celebrate Intersectional Feminism. We aim to put a spotlight on the experiences of Black British women and women of colour, giving a voice to the marginalised. We stand for equality for all people and are proud of our heritage as women of the Diaspora. We publish thought provoking and thoughtful articles on our blog and organise events throughout the year via our No Fly on the WALL Academy to encourage people to gather together and learn from each other.
