About this event

Spirituality • Christianity

Focus days are when the Focal Ministry learning community gathers to explore focal leadership around a theme. These opportunities are for those in commissioned focal ministry and also for those who want to discover more about this new and emergent ministry.

FOCUS DAY THEME: Elijah's Mantle: Discernment in focal ministry.

A vital part of being a focal leader is drawing others out in discipleship, commitment to service and involvement in mission in their local churches. Whether as a focal leader you are just beginning your role or thinking about looking for someone to pass the mantle to - being able to discern and develop God's call on others is vital. But it can be hard - especially with a new ministry.

We will be reflecting together as a focal learning community on calling, discernment and passing on the role to another.

Across the morning we will:

  • Reflect on our own roles with a view to drawing others alongside in ministry.
  • Gather resources from scripture, expertise and our own experience and context to build hope for discernment in our churches.
  • Be facilitated in drawing together principles for action moving back into our churches.

There will be plenty opportunity to meet others doing a similar role, learn from the experiences of others and access support and further resources for this new ministry.

Frequently asked questions

I'm already a focal leader - do I need to come?

Focus days are an integral part of focal leader development and your contribution is valuable to the whole learning community but these days are not compulsory! Participants usually find them very useful in helping them understand and reflect upon their focal role more deeply.

Can I attend the Focus Day if I am not a focal leader?

Yes! Focus Days are also really helpful for those who just want to know more about this role, or what the role might look like in their parish. Small groups from PCC or broader church life are also welcome as part of this process.

Is St John's House accessible?

Yes! There are lifts to all floors - please get in touch if you have particular accessibility requirements so we can put your mind at rest.

Will there be lunch?

The Focus day will begin with light refreshments and there will be drinks available throughout the morning, we will finish before lunch at 12.45.
