Have you had radiotherapy for a brain tumour? If so please join this focus group. Your voice is a transformative force and brings research closer to patients and patients closer to research.
Focus groups are really important – seeking patient and caregiver feedback is
a key step in trial design and means that research is more likely to be funded.
What is this study about?
The Neurobiology Group at the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), wants to
understand why people develop neurological side effects from radiotherapy, and
prevent the debilitating neurological side effects directly related to radiotherapy for a
brain tumour.
What makes this study different?
It is the first time that late effects from radiotherapy for brain tumours have been
studied with this detail.
What does the study team want to know?
The team would like your feedback and input so that the research is clinically
relevant.
This is what they want to talk about:
- Which long-term neurological side effects from radiotherapy is the most impactful
in your daily life, as a patient or a caregiver?
- Which long-term neurological side effects do you think need to be investigated?
- Based on our research team goal what else you think we need to do? (Example: understanding whether chemotherapy + radiotherapy together makes side-effects worst? Studying short-term side effects, if so which ones?)
The bigger picture
The research findings will not only be shared with the public and the scientific
community, but also organisational committees centred around medical radiation
safety and regulations. The UKHSA provides guidance and advice on the health
effects of radiation. Additionally, the team has a role with the United Nations:
Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation.
