About Colin Howes

Colin Howes is a partner at Harbottle & Lewis LLP where he provides specialist corporate and strategic advice on buying and selling businesses, investments in businesses, joint ventures and commercial agreements. He also advises charities and other philanthropic organisations on governance and legal issues. He has a particular interest in investment and M&A transactions involving TV production companies, having advised both investors and the founders of numerous indies, starting with the sale of TalkBalk by Peter Fincham, Mel Smith and Griff Rhys-Jones. Other deals he has been involved in over the years include Hat Trick’s investments in start-ups; the sales of Monkey Kingdom, Objective, and Tiger Aspect; investments into Kindle Entertainment, Endor, Dancing Ledge, Blink Entertainment; and Legendary Group’s recent investment into Watford & Essex Limited (Emma Frost and Matthew Graham).

He has led sessions during the IndieLab programme for the last four years, is Board Adviser to Virgin Unite and The Talent Fund and a director of Comic Relief Limited and serves on BAFTA’s Finance and Risk Committee.

About Katrien Roos

Katrien Roos is an Associate in the Film, TV and Theatre Department at Harbottle & Lewis. Katrien advises a broad range of clients in the film and television industries in relation to rights exploitation, development, financing, production and distribution. She has acted on scripted dramas as well as extensively in respect of non-scripted content, including advising on development agreements, commissioning agreements, releases, presenter contracts, and writers’ and format agreements.

Notable clients include: Cat’s on the Roof, Jax Media and Complete Fiction Pictures.

Katrien recently gave presentations to the Production Guild and the Royal Television Society on the impact of Covid-19 on the industry from a legal perspective, and she regularly hosts legal refresher sessions for producers in the film and television industries
