Innes & Mike & Innes & Mike sees the coming together of two duos at the forefront of Scottish folk guitar music.
Innes Watson and Mike Vass are two of the leading multi-instrumentalists on the UK folk and roots scene, best known for their respective work with Scottish supergroup Treacherous Orchestra and renowned Scots funk band Man’s Ruin, Scots singer Fiona Hunter and Vass’ critically acclaimed solo recording DecemberWell. Together they explore traditional and contemporary music on acoustic and tenor guitars, creating a dynamic sound that ranges from pin-drop slow airs to fiery flat-picked reels. The traditional material blends seamlessly with their own award-winning compositions. As previous winners at the MG Alba Scots Trad Music Awards, Innes for Instrumentalist of the Year and Mike for Composer of the Year, they debuted their unique live performance at the Ullapool Guitar Festival 2013 to a discerning audience of guitar aficionados and brought the house down.
They are joined by… Innes and Mike… Innes White and Michael Ferrie’s ambitious and creative melodic playing often belies their years. As products of the Fèis movement, they developed a mutual respect and rivalry from a young age that has driven their playing forward, and this comes across in their exciting and committed performance. Award winners in their own rights, it is little surprise that their early careers have seen them performing with and writing for a range of musicians on the Scottish music scene, including Karen Matheson and Donald Shaw (White), Robyn Stapleton and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra (Ferrie).
