Halifax Food Assembly welcomes Business for Calderdale

Set up in July 2016, the Halifax Food Assembly is a click and collect service for local food, making it easy for customers to buy their food locally and to support local farmers, growers and artisans.

This Valentine’s Day the Halifax Food Assembly will be delighted to welcome Business for Calderdale to its weekly collection at All Saints Parish Hall, between 4.15pm and 6.15pm. To celebrate all the producers will have free tasters to tempt their visitors to try the very best in local produce.

“We’ve created a successful and important food network for our customers and producers,” explained Carol Longbottom, the host of the food assembly. “In fact our market is very local with our producers only travelling an average of four miles to reach the weekly collection point.

“It couldn’t be easier; it doesn’t cost anything to become a member and you decide how often you buy. You simply shop online in the comfort of your own home and pop along to your weekly collection, which is each Wednesday between 4.15pm and 6.15pm at All Saints Parish Hall, Skircoat Green, Halifax,” added Carol.

Members can enjoy the delights of smoked and fresh fish from Chapelbank Smokehouse; pies, pastries and quiches from Your Secret Gourmet; pickles and marmalades from Heritage Kitchen; and fantastic cheeses from Pextenement, as well as cooking oils and sauces from Temujin Restaurant.

These are all offered alongside amazing sausages and bacon from Porcus; wonderful Yorkshire bred lamb and beef from KLS; gorgeous duck and hen eggs from Lower Balkram Edge Farm and fresh milk, including raw milk, from Heath Lea Farm. And we’ve now started selling Suma products through the Halifax Food Assembly Extra, which fit in well with the food assembly ethos.

From high above Hebden Bridge and Todmorden Sagar Lane produce fruit, vegetables and salad crops in the spring, summer and autumn. Yorkshire Dama Cheese, of Sowerby Bridge, La Cucina di Francesca, of Cleckheaton and LoveBread of Brighouse also all supply the assembly.

Jayne’s Cakes and Bakes, from Halifax has joined, as well as RachAls, with their amazing shortbreads and sticky toffee puddings and Oat Cuisine, with their beautiful flapjacks. Andrew Sykes now supplies his gorgeous curries too. And soon we’ll be getting fresh flowers too. Watch this space for further developments.
