Event Details

Our social enterprise Just Pop Up is running a series of talks followed by a 3 course Middle Eastern style feast!

1st part of event - we have special guest Robin Hall from Plawhatch, giving us a talk on Biodynmics and how this works on the farm, followed by a talk from the wonderful Keith Colin from Sustainable Sussex giving a talk on what they do and their sustainability pholosophy, their recent projects and finally a talk from Liane Webb from Sustainable Mind on mindfulness, community and it's links to sustainability. If we are lucky, we may even get a cheeky guided meditation! I don't know about you, but 200-300 people in a large auditorium meditating is going to be a powerful kind of peace!

2nd part of event - Following on from the talks, we have our three course pop-up kitchen starting at 8pm-10.30pm cooking up a storm using ingredients that are organic, biodynamic, sustainable and locally sourced, putting a sparkle in your tummy’s this bonfire weekend! We will be releasing the menu in a weeks time (early October) on our facebook page for you to make your choice of starter/main meal/puddings.

Both parts of the event are run by Just Pop Up and there are a range of options for you to choose from when buying tickets! Have you got dinner plans already that evening? Why not come to the talk only? Free all evening? Come to the talk and then have dinner.. (WARNING: there are X30 tickets available for the pop-up in the café, so get in there fast to take advantage of the promotional deal). Only want to come to the pop-up and skip the talks? Again, buy the ticket for the pop-up, but get your tickets fast!!

Timings:The talks commence at 6.30pm and finish at 8pm. There will be a half hour interval in between talks, in which there will be edible offerings from Plawhatch and Sustainable Sussex. Also this is an opportunity to meet some more top quality local producers whom will have stalls around the room, there for you to taste & buy some seriously good local produce.

Pop-up starts at 8pm and finishes around 10.30pm

Event details: Meat eaters, vegetarians, vegans and gluten free parties are welcomed and there are options a plenty! We have disabled access entering the building, and lifts to restrooms.

Just Pop Up

I am a social entrepreneur who started her journey with a mental health breakdown. That's right, I suffered a dark depression and was very isolated with little confidence and no one to talk to. I connected with food and qualified with a local social enterprises' help. Thanks to my own willingness to recover and the help and support by others, I became increasingly more passionate about growing, cooking, mindfullness, eating healthily as well as sustainably. I believe that a series of positive experiences is what has lead to last change in my life and I want to help others who are suffering mental health problems to recover and engage in the community also.  The idea behind the social enterprise Just Pop Up is to raise money with events and use the profits to teach in community kitchens around Brighton & Hove.  The social side of the business aims to tackle issues like 'stigma' around mental health illness. It seems absurd that if 1 in 4 people suffer from mental health issues and aswell as suffering from being mentally ill, a person experiences negative stigma around the thing that they are suffering from! Raising awareness and talking more openly about our experiences is part of what helps us to feel accepted and is a massive part of recovery, so next year Just Pop Up will launch targeted campaigns around awareness of mental health issues,  alongside cooking workshops for those suffering specific mental health illnesses.
