Getting your paper published: A workshop on avoiding delays and ethical complications

Background

Scientists work hard to achieve high-quality research to advance our knowledge, regardless of their speciality, but getting their work published can be a difficult and prolonged process.

There are many reasons why research articles are rejected, and most have nothing to do with whether or the not science is novel or the hypothesis valid, although both help to get work noticed. Instead, papers are rejected because they are poor presented to the wrong journal, and the design of the study or the analysis of the results fundamentally flawed.

This workshop will explore the shortcomings in the manuscript preparation and submissions process that often lead to research being rejected for publication. Addressing these issues prior to submission will increase the chances of a manuscript being published, advancing the credibility of the authors an increasingly competitive global research community.

Academic journals are part of a dynamic and highly competitive industry that has changed substantially as a result of online submissions and open access publishing. Whilst scientists continue to make common mistakes, the solutions to be discussed will be relevant to most types of papers, including short communications, research articles and review papers, regardless of discipline, reducing delays and frustration and avoiding ethical complications.
