As part of the Food is GREAT campaign, Defra and Santander are delighted to invite North West food and drink businesses to this comprehensive and thought provoking workshop to help map out your journey overseas.
The North West is proud to be the home of some of the world’s best known food and drink brands and manufacturers. We also have a wide and diverse range of high quality, independent, local and regional food companies. This event aims to give you access to the latest opportunities and industry specialists, who will be on hand to share their extensive knowledge and experience.

10:00 – 10:30 - Intro to the Great British Food Unit and the Dept. for International Trade in the North West
The Great British Food Unit has been established today to turbo-charge UK food exports and support industry growth plans. Lynne Gillen, International Trade Adviser will discuss the assistance available in the North West to grow exports and show you how to access real “live” global opportunities.

The FDEA are dedicated to support existing food and drink exporters in growing their sales overseas and encouraging new companies to begin their export journey. Elsa, will highlight the work of the FDEA and their expertise in international business development.
11:00 - 11:45 How to export alcohol, HMRC – Neill Brettell
Knowing the rules and regulations implicating the export of alcohol is a crucial step for you if you export beer, cider, wine and other alcoholic products. This session is suitable for companies interested in starting to export alcohol, or for more experienced alcohol exporters to ask questions.
11:45– 12:15 - International Finance and Opportunities, Santander
Gordon Iddon, International Director for Santander will showcase their unique international proposition, including the award winning Santander Trade Portal - A free online resource to help exporters both identify the best export opportunities and find the information and key contacts needed to achieve success.

13:20 – 13:40 - Smylie Ltd is a privately owned and family run British food export business based in the north west of England. For the last 13 years we have specialised in the sourcing and distribution of British food and drink for the international market.
13:40 – 14:00 – DGT International - D.G Thompson has traded internationally for over 30 years. With specific expertise in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia where they have direct distribution through Ho Chi Minh City.
14:00 – 15:00 - Q&A Panel Session with the experts (facilitated by Lynne Gillen, DIT NW)
