Event description

Description

Join London Food Link at Today Bread in Walthamstow for the launch of the new-for-2017 Urban Food Heroes award and the chance to hear a handpicked selection of stories from the people who are doing good through food.

Run in conjunction with UnLtd, the Foundation for Social Entrepreneurs, and as part of Urban Food Fortnight 2017, we're celebrating people and projects that are helping individuals, communities and the planet through growing, making, cooking or saving food.

Speakers confirmed so far include:

  • A grower from Organiclea, which provides training in urban growing and a buddy system to support new growers
  • Nemi (previously Chaigaram), creating employment and training opportunities for refugees around their chai business
  • Today Bread founder Alexandre Bettler
  • Luminary Bakery, a non-profit bakery in East London working for the empowerment of women
  • Headway East, a charity supporting people affected by brain injury
  • Rubies in the Rubble, saving surplus food with their award winning condiments
  • Change Please, a project training people who are homeless to be baristas

As well as these inspiring talks, there’ll be demos, a chance to share good food and drink and to make new foodie friends.

Tickets include a welcome drink and a light supper.
