Description

Dear         Colleague,                                                                                          August 2016

Invitation. Food in FOCUS GROUP. What Might a Good Society Look like? 18th October 2-4pm @ Swansea University. Room number - Glyndwr 146.

You are invited to attend an interactive discussion on Food Poverty, a Good society and how do we get there? The vision for this event is a collaboration of thoughts, a conversation and idea sharing around what the good society might look like.

We have been running focus groups around the UK asking civil society groups to consider what is a Good Society and how do we get there? We presented our initial findings at the House of Commons in June of this year. Our Collaborative Conversations document is now up on the website www.edgehill.ac.uk/I4P. We are hoping to extend our collaborative conversations asking people to comment and discuss our existing research themes  from specific perspectives; Food Poverty, Race and Poverty, Migration, Young People, Older People, Rural Poverty, Poverty Truth Commissions.

We would like to invite you to discuss how do you create a Good Society, specifically addressing the issue of Food Poverty. We will run a two hour session with small group discussions around what is a Good society in relation to Civil Society’s response to Food Poverty and a participatory session creating a graffiti wall that summarizes the groups thoughts.  These graffiti walls will then be turned into visual minutes by our graphic designer.

 Agenda:

2pm Welcome and Introduction to our Collaborative Conversation: A Good Society, Civil Society and Voices from the Frontline

2.15pm Small Group Discussion. What is a Good society in relation to Civil Societies response to Food Poverty?

2.45pm -3.45pm Graffiti Wall - Civil Societies response to Food Poverty

3.45pm Event Close.

The aim of the focus group is to gather academic and practitioner considerations of a Good Society, to share what is being done by different sectors in terms of poverty alleviation and inequality and to focus on what more can be done.

Output: The event is part of a wider research project being conducted by the Institution for Public Policy and Professional Practice at Edge Hill University on behalf of the Webb Memorial Trust. The results of discussions at this event will contribute to a final research report compiled in the spring of 2017 for the Webb Memorial Trust which examines responses to poverty, inequality, social growth and development. This research report will feed into the wider policy narrative focusing on notions of a Good Society.

We value your reflections and would be delighted if you could join us. If you would like to attend please respond to the Institution for Public Policy and Professional Practice via our Event Brite Link:
