Event description

Description

This practical workshop at the Alice Park Community Garden will guide you through different ways to grow fresh vegetables through the winter. You will learn what vegetables can be planted now, and over the coming months, what varieties to choose and how best to protect your crops from cold weather. With a little forward planning you can grow delicious leafy greens, onions, garlic, chicory, spinach, chard and herbs.

We'll talk about building soil fertility and ways to minimise carbon emissions using 'no-dig' methods, mulching and using green manures. This workshop is linked with a second session on compost-making, liquid fertilisers, compost teas and using biochar - see event listing for 20th October 'Organic Matter- Making and using compost'
